![]() | The Blind Side: Evolution of a Gameby Michael Lewis I just finished this and I'm here to tell you that it is possibly the most charming book ever written, with Lewis marvelling and amused at one amazing incident after another. It's a fable about people transcending every part of the normal social order in this way that's thrilling and funny and only incidentally about football. |
![]() | The WireLike Friday Night Lights, The Wire is almost like a documentary, but with more dramatic depth and more complicated story arcs. |
![]() | Strong Bad Sings And Other Type HitsIf you are one of the six people left in America who doesn't already know about homestarrunner.com, this is the CD of songs sung by the Homestar Runner characters, and what's remarkable about it is the sheer virtuosity of writing and performance. Pure pleasure and nerve by people who really love music. Special favorites on this CD: "Sensitive to Bees" and "Cheat Is Not Dead." If I live to be a hundred, I'll never write and perform anything in any medium as great as "Cheat Is Not Dead," a song made even better by the fact that it seems like they just knocked it out in an afternoon. |
![]() | Pride and PrejudiceMy wife made me watch this on our honeymoon, and I don't think it was the timing that made me love it (and helped me finally understand why the ladies love Colin Firth). This version kicks the ass of that 2005 Keira Knightly version. |
![]() | South Park: Bigger, Longer and UncutPure genius, plus fart jokes. Even Stephen Sondheim calls this one of the best musicals in years. Sometimes, when I'm not thinking about anything else, the songs from this film will pop into my head. Especially, for some reason: "I want this V-chip out of meeee. It has stunted my vocabulareee." |
