Borders College Graduate Training Program
Borders' informative and interactive College Graduate Training Program is designed to prepare high-potential college graduates to succeed at Borders Group. The program provides participants with general business acumen, professional development, cross-functional exposure, and operational insights. The program equips participants with the tools necessary to promote personal and professional career development.
Components of the College Grad Training Program include:
- On-the-Job Training. Participants are placed in a department related to their major, provided with daily guidance from a strong company leader, and given challenging work assignments.
- Cross-Functional Group Projects. Participants work in teams on a five-month-long company-sponsored project that instills cross-functional business acumen and fosters project management skills.
- Operational Activities. Participants are provided with a hands-on operational experience in both store divisions, as well as on-site distribution facility training.
- Professional Development Series. Participants are exposed to a customized training program intended to build professional skill sets and management competencies.
- Functional Learning Lessons. Participants are given a view into the workings of major departmental areas and how Borders Group operates as a whole.
- Mentor Program. Participants are given the opportunity to grow, learn, and develop under the guidance of a proven company leader.
Program candidates should demonstrate the following qualifications:
- Strong leadership skills

- Demonstrated initiative for personal and professional development
The MBA Program
The Business Manager MBA will participate in a cross-functional employment experience that will involve various business units that can include Marketing, Finance, and Merchandising, among others. The program includes strategic project activities, high-level exposure to Borders executives, opportunities for one-on-one mentoring with senior leadership, and on-site learning in store-based operational and distribution center experiences.
